  Steve Jay MusiQ brings a distinctive Amapiano, Sgidongo and Boots Movement-inspired DJ style built around rhythm, energy and crowd connection. His sets are designed to take the audience on a journey rather than simply playing one track after another. DJ STYLE My style focuses on smooth transitions, energetic drops, deep basslines, melodic moments and carefully selected Amapiano and Sgidongo records. I like blending familiar crowd favourites with underground sounds and my own unreleased music, creating a set that feels fresh while still keeping people connected to the dance floor. I also use my own productions and collaborations as part of my sets, giving the audience an opportunity to experience the Steve Jay MusiQ sound directly. My music includes Amapiano, Sgidongo and Boots Movement influences. DJ SETUP My ideal setup includes professional DJ decks/controllers, a reliable laptop with a well-organised music library, quality headphones and a properly tuned sound system. I prepare my sets by organising tracks according to BPM, energy, key, mood and crowd response. The goal is to have enough preparation to stay technically sharp while still leaving room to improvise and respond to the atmosphere in the venue. CROWD VIBES Reading the crowd is one of the most important parts of my performance. I watch how people react to different sounds, when the dance floor gets more active, which songs create the biggest reactions and when the audience needs a change of energy. I can start with a smoother groove, gradually build the energy and then deliver bigger drops when the crowd is ready. I want people to feel involved in the set—not like they’re simply listening to a playlist. HOW I HANDLE REQUESTS I’m open to requests because the crowd is part of the experience. I listen to what people ask for and, when the request fits the vibe, I look for the right moment to introduce it. I don’t necessarily interrupt the flow of the set immediately for every request. Instead, I consider the current energy, BPM, key and direction of the set. If the requested song works, I blend it in naturally. If a request doesn’t fit the moment, I may save it for later rather than breaking the atmosphere.
